10/17/2001 Entry: "10/17 Day 2"

Well I made it through yesterday without a cigg. The cravings aren't as bad as they usually are when I quit. I had cut way down on my smoking for the past 2 weeks to try and prepare myself for the big day. I know from past experience that day 3 will be the hardest, and wouldn't you know I have to work tomorrow. That is the day that I'm usually dying for a cigg. and very crabby, but we'll see. So far I am not touchy or crabby yet. It already seems like a long time since I've smoked. I have a feeling it's because I'm exercising and eating healthy. I just feel better.

It sounds like you're doing really well Leah :D A tip I heard recently is not to think of it as "giving up" as this implies sacrificing something you enjoy, just tell yourself you don't smoke. Like Fenia, I'm just a nicotine junkie. Incredibly I've stopped smoking both times I was pregnant and swore that I wouldn't start again and both times I've "fallen" within 4 weeks of giving birth. My big problem is when I get stressed I have no other way to cope and so far haven't found a substitute for cigarettes in very stressful situations. If anyone has any ideas on dealing with stress without cigarettes that doesn't involve smashing something or killing someone, please let me know. I'll be cheering you on all the way Leah!

WOW LEAH!!! I'm so proud of you hun!! I know it is hard to quit smoking...been there, done that. What helped me was to think about all of the horrible things that were in each cigarette. Yuck...ammonia & formmaldehyde?! Nasty stuff. I also tried to remind myself of all the horrible things that could happen to me if I didn't quit. The Truth is a pretty helpful website to check out if you want to get through a tempting moment: http://www.thetruth.com

Good luck hun! I know you can do this!!!!! I'll be praying for you Leah :)
