12/23/2001 Entry: "12/23 Morning"

I got my Christmas shopping done. All I have left is to wrap 2 presents. I really love buying gifts for some people....those who I know will like what I've picked out. It's so much fun! Tomorrow I work all day and then we are celebrating Christmas with my mom and brothers in the evening. Then the next day I go to my Grandma's for lunch and then to Shawn's mom's for supper. It should be a busy time. I'm always glad when the holidays are over. It's usually a very emotional time for me, but this year I've been really trying to get into the Christmas spirit and create some good memories.

I am smoking again. I can't recall if I mentioned that already or not. I did super for the first month and then all of a sudden I was smoking again. I'm not even sure how it happened. I'm not even going to attempt to quit again for a long time as my self esteem cannot take another failure. I will quit some day, most likely when I get pregnant, if Shawn and I have children.

I have pretty much decided on my schooling. I am going to study to become a Certified Coding Specialist. I am going to take long distance courses and complete the work on my own. I will not be earning an actual degree, but I will become knowledgable enough that I should be able to take the National exam to become certified. My schooling can take anywhere from 9-24 months to complete. I am very impressed with this school and looking forward to the challenge of studying. And what a challenge this will be! I have researched the Coding Specialist profession, and it appears I will need to know medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and also how to read doctor's notes in patient charts to determing their primary and secondary diagnoses etc. so I know what codes to use. It seems like an awful lot of huge words to use and very complicated as there are so many laws to follow. This type of work will always require continuing ed also.

I really think this is for me. I am up for this challenge. I read that a person who is interested in this career must be someone who is detail oriented, analytical, likes to investigate, and loves to read. Well this is me in a nutshell. I really think this career would be the most challenging and stimulating for my mind. I really need this. Plus the pay can equal that of a computer programmer once I gain some exerperience. Then to top it off the hospital in my area hires the coders to work out of their own homes. How ideal that would be!

Meanwhile I am saving up my downpayment so I can send for my books. I'm hoping to start some time in January. I love the long distance learning aspect so I can continue to work and study in my own time.

Not much else has been going on. I'm still fighting the blahs but have started exercising again in hopes this will help. I know it helped before.

Merry Christmas Leah. Sounds like you are going to have a busy year ahead of you. I wish you the best of luck with your schooling, it sounds challenging but I know you can do it. I'd hate to tell you how many times I have quit smoking and started again...it is the most difficult thing there is to stop. I did quit when I was pregnant and started again soon after the kids were born...there always seemed to be something that would trigger the starting again, I really want to quit this coming year...hope I make it this time.

You take care and happy holidays.

*big hugs*

Hi Miss Leah! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. We made it through ours just fine. It wasn't near as hard as I thought it would be. All I had to do is be thankful that we didn't have to spend this Christmas with mom being very sick. I am at peace knowing she got to celebrate Christmas with Jesus himself.

I miss you girl. I am running around like crazy and can't wait till all this moving and stuff is over.

I will try to call you in the next few days.
