12/09/2001 Entry: "12/09 I'm Home"

I'm home. I had an okay time. When I say okay, I mean just okay. It could have been better. It's not anyone's fault though. It was just not as much fun I thought it would be driving every day and unloading the van, unpacking, and then packing up again the next day. It rained most of the way to Daytona, so that didn't help. The longest we stayed in one hotel was 2 days, and that was in Daytona. I had a really nice time there. I spent some time walking in the ocean and some shopping. Then Shawn and I found a lighthouse that we walked all the way up to. Then Monday afternoon we drove to Jacksonville (got lost trying to find our hotel) so by the time we checked in I barely had time for a shower before we had to leave for the Packer Game. The Packer game itself was wonderful!! What a game!! I guess the main reason I can't say I had a great time is I didn't get to relax. We were constantly on the move or doing something. I really wanted to spend a day or two lying around a pool and catching some sun, but that didn't happen. Next vacation I'll be flying and staying in only 1 hotel.

Shawn did get me out golfing for the first time in my life. By the 2nd hole I was ready to snap my clubs in half! I was so angry as I kept missing the ball. Finally, I got so ticked that I just went up to the ball and swung my club. Lo and behold, I hit the dang thing and fairly far too! So that's how I finished the game. I actually did okay and started to enjoy golf once I could actually hit the ball. I did keep score as I wanted a record of my first attempt. My score was 74. I'm not sure how awful that is but I'm proud that I finished the game anyway.

Yesterday Shawn and I put up our Christmas tree. It's so beautiful! I love sitting here with the lights on and just watching the tree. It's so relaxing.

I am still trying to decide what to major in for college. Now I'm thinking of going for Accounting instead of Computer Programmer. The main reason is I had some accounting classes in the past and really enjoyed them. Plus I'm the type of person who enjoys putsy and detailed work which most would consider boring. I am going to make an appointment with a counselor to see if I can take some interest survey tests or something to see what I'd be good at. I do recall years ago that Accounting was something I should try. If I'm totall honest with myself, I'd realize the main reason I would go for Computer Programmer is because of the money. I don't really know anything about what the courses would entail so I'm not sure if I'd like that or not. At least I am familiar with what Accounting is. Though I would want to become a C.P.A. which I know would require further schooling or something. I need to do some research to see what I can make as an Accountant. Also, I would love to do taxes so I could specialize in that or even have my own business one day. But these are all just thoughts. I'm under somewhat of a time crunch though so I really need to make some decisions. Meanwhile, I can always take my general courses. I am only going to be attending part-time anyway as I need to continue working. I should know more by the end of this week.

*HUGS* I'm sorry you didn't get to relax on your vacation!

Glad to hear you had an "okay" time, but wasn't it nice to just get away?

As for accounting, I say go for it. I love my job because I love accounting. I love numbers, I love trying to figure out what the hell some bookkeeper thought they were doing and fixing it, lmao. You can call me a number investigator :) And in Canada, I don't have a designation yet, though I am working on one (CGA) and I make 45K+ :) with 7 years experience.

Thanks for the info Trish. I am definitely leaning towards Accounting. I know I would like it and that's even more important than the money. My problem is I'm going to a technical college for an associate degree rather than a bachelor's degree so I'm not sure what I would actually make. But if I love the job that's worth more anyway. :)

And yes it was fun to get away....though I'm happy to be home. I missed my house and my kitties.

Welcome home, Leah! I'm sorry you didn't have a GREAT time on your vacation, but I know all about going and not getting to relax and just having an okay time. That's kinda how our Talladega trip was. Anyway, missed ya girl, glad you're back!

Welcome back Leah! We missed your updates. I know what you mean about not being sure what to major in! I have tons of interests. And, as of today, I have changed my major FROM Computer Science to Organizational Studies with a minor in Communications. (There's a limited number of majors for the night/weekend adult program here so that's the closest to what I want to do.) I love computers but I have no technical experience, so I mostly chose that deree at first for the money lure. But my Programming class drove me crazy in that it didn't come naturally to me and I'm not used to that. I'm a writer at heart, and I'm thinking maybe I'll someday get a job managing a bookstore and then after I get experience open my own. Whatever I end up doing (tee hee), at least I will be less stressed out and happier with school, and get my Bachelor's finally! Good luck in making your decision. Do what I realize is the most important--go with your heart and do what makes you happy!
